Since 2009, Mike has been fighting for the citizens of Springfield - specifically his neighbors, friends and family in Ward 2.  Safety, jobs, fiscal responsibility, and good government have been the bedrock of his focus.

A lifelong Springfield resident, Michael A. Fenton is an attorney and City Councilor who fights for Ward 2 each and every day.

Michael is a Democrat who takes a commonsense approach to government. He believes that transparency and accountability are what fuel successful cities. Michael has led the way on issues such as casino ethics, residency for city employees, and government accountability. Leveraging his skills as an attorney, Councilor Fenton has been an extremely effective advocate for his district and has used tax incentives to attract businesses to our community. In Michael’s brief time on the City Council, Ward 2 has gained new public parks, a senior center, a police department sub-station, and thousands of jobs from companies including the rail car manufacturer CRRC, Smith & Wesson, Baystate Health, Titeflex and numerous small businesses. Since being elected, Councilor Fenton has helped to bring over $375 million dollars of public and private investments into East Springfield, Hungry Hill, and Atwater Park. Bottom line — Mike is a proven leader who gets serious results for Ward 2. Michael is a proud product of Springfield and a graduate of Our Lady of Hope, Cathedral High School, Providence College, and Western New England University where he earned both an MBA and law degree.

Mike's Mission

My only goal in public service is to improve my hometown.  I have started my family here, just like my parents and their parents before them, and I only want this place to succeed.

Our City Council is more diverse than ever and we are stronger than ever . . . We will continue to overcome, to reinvent and to thrive - we are Springfield, and she is strong.”
— Michael A. Fenton, City Council Presidency Inauguration Speech - Jan 6, 2014
